Protein Skimmer

Is a protein skimmer necessary for a seahorse tank? Are the skimmers made for the biocubes good or should i get a different one?
Thanks!

Thats kinda of a difficult question...first you ask if they are necessary, then you ask if you should get a different one for your biocube.....need more info...are U keeping horses?....are you having water quality issues?...

Sorry, I might be getting seahorses after summer, and im researching now so I know everything. I already have a 14 biocube though. I heard that the protein skimmer made for biocubes are sometimes not good, and I was wondering if I need one at all.

Sorry but (as Loverotties said) that's gonna be a tight fit for anything bigger than dwarf seahorses. They might be ok while they're younger / smaller but they'll be miserable (IMHO) in a tank that small when they mature to full size.

Here's a link to some good pony info:

"reidi 1 pair/8 gallons (30 liters)- minimum size 15 gallons (60 liters)
fuscus 1 pair per 5 gallons (20 liters)- minimum size 10 gallons (40 liters)"

Biocube

here's the deal if you keep reading over their you will find that they suggest the tank be 3 times the height of the adult horse - which a biocube will nto be once you have put sand in.

Also you need to be able to keep the temp down to 74 degrees this is to keep infection and illness down. Those all in one cubes are great, but they run hot so you will need a chiller no ands ifs or buts - a chiller will be a MUST have with that kind of tank.

Horses are also dirty little critters and the skimmers they make to go into the all in ones just aren't that great. so you will need to be diligent about water changes, or expect to have algae issues. Growing macro algae in the tank can help that.

Hope these ideas give you more to chew on as you plan your tank.
