I'm glad I found this thread. Amy you have a lot of experience on horses. Have you started up your again for horses?

I'm not trying to steel the thread.

I am thinking about starting up a tank 37g tall. We currently have (1) 120 reef and (1) 135 FOWLR, however we are going to up grade to a 375 reef soon. I have a good understanding on reef tanks, none with horses. I will check out the sites you mentioned.

Howdy Edand Sandy!

Just to be clear if less than a yr is a lot of experience then ok, I did read a goofy amount, but I killed 2 sets so I guess I know a lot about what not to do

I really do think if you follow the "guidelines" for horses they dont' have to be that hard.

Suggestions that most newbies ignore, as I did are getting ponies from a KNOWN tank breed supplier. I know that many folks have had success in other ways, but there are enough little things with these guys that by going with a known breeder it makes it easier.

The second thing is tank temp. I won't be putting the pony tank back up until I get a chiller - I couldn't keep the tank temp cool enough on warmer days and that was what bit me in the behind in the end.

I know that I will have a pony tank again some day, but not for awhile.
another thing that will help you is starting your own thread in this forum. Ask all the questions you want and post what you think you will set your system up like and we will be happy to help you!

Amy

FWIW
My ponies also dies within 4 weeks....

My suggestions:
READ READ READ
then read some more

Set up the tank.
Let it run for 6 months
Get the ponies from a "good" supplier. (seahorse.org for reference)
READ SOME MORE

I'm really itching to setup a pipefish tank, but there's no place in my house for another saltwater establishment. Got any recent pics of yours?

No recent pics and actually I'm ashamed of the tank he's in But hes loving it!

He is in a 35g cornner RR Hex.
The tank has about 30# LR and a lot of softies.. 130w PC

Actually there is about 1" thick Cyano covering everything but the front glass.

Softies afre glowing like CRAZY!!!
There are "clouds" of PODS. I'm not joking there are MILLIONS in this tank.

It's is a super nutrient rich system.

I actually had a ailing frogspawn, not sure why, I put him in there for 3 weeks and it's fine now.

I need to clean it and aquascape it but It's interesting just watching it. It's like a science experiment...
