new tank

I'm going to get a 20 gal. hex tank Sat. she says it is......"20 1/2 in tall. Then from point to point (where each panel attaches to the next panel) across the tank is 18 3/4 and from side to side across the tank is 16 1/4 in..."

I'd like to have seahorse's and pipefish. Has anyone got both? I'm going to use a whisper 30 filter I've had in the closet. Got the media floating in my refugium of my existing tank.

I know you need captive, but is there certain kinds that are better for a newby to SH?

Hi Valerie, As far as the seahorses goe that tank will work, I also like H.riedi . other kinds out there that are nice

I did my tank with live rock, I would not do it again with live as too many thing on the rock, I would use dry base one and will on my next seahorse set up. That way I have more control on what is introduce to the tank,

When you get it set it up and cycle it like anyother tank, Even adding the media, I would do a cycle.

tank setup

I have two cool pieces of dry bumpy ledge rock I'd like to glue to the tank for some ledges using aquarium silicone. Do you think that would work? would the horses like that? Since it'll be a dry tank I can do whatever I want to. Also, I hate to sound girly, but i'd like pretty SH. I've seen pictures of different colored SH. What is available for sale, CB?

Just remember that buying for color does not always work out. Seahorse can and will change color. Mine were bright yellow with a ton of cirri when I bought them. With in 2 weeks they were a lovely live rock color. And with in 6 months they had lost the cirri. I did not pay extra for color thank goodness. Just make sure you buy from a breeder, like seahorsesource or draco marine. Ocean rider has nice horses but their customer service is questionable. Most LFS get import seahorses, that need to be treated like wild caught.

VWD,
what types of issues did you have with the LR? I am hoping to go buy mine next weekend and I have the choice of dry tonga, fiji and marshall island. I am extending curing some of the fiji from my exsisiting tank (6 months old)- with light, I didn't want to loose all the coraline- makes it pretty imo.
I was going to do a mix, but want to hear what your experience has been first...
thanks

I was told by the LFS that they order from ORA. I had been reading that SH change color, if I buy a black one could I hope for a color change though? Has anyone had a black change color? They recommend Reidi, I've been reading about some they call Mustangs?

Vince is there any pictures I can see of your setup? What kind of filters do you use? How are your tanks set up?

Cool Valerie, I also like that Bud Picture haning, I don't remember that when I was over your house. Is the tank in the same room as your reef?
