My Ponies

Nice to see a thread on seahorses started here.
I'm sorry bout the terrible pics, but you can see I love my ponies. We have about 125 ranging from 2 weeks up to adult right now.
One room in the house is strictly for support. I grow green water, rotifers and brine just to feed them.

That was a 2 gallon bowl. I did a complete vaccumm and change daily to keep the water good. I don't use it anymore. Now I use the system I made in the picture. It hold 7 gallons and I have an airline into a T on the back wall giving me rotation. By keeping the heater in the left side, I can hatch brine @ 85 degrees and the Kreisel side stays 74. I do a 1 gallon change while vaccuming the bottom dailey.
I keep a continuos batch of rotifers in a 20l tank that I feed the the WALL OF PHYTO you can see growing in the next pic.
It's a ton of work but worth it. The 10-14 week olds are eating cyclopseeze now but it's been tough getting there.
You can't raise the new fry on bbs until at least 2 weeks old. Until 2 weeks, rotifers are all they can take.
Good luck. I can't wait to see your fist post with new fry.

Heres a batch @ 6 weeks and then the same ones around 10 or 11 weeks. We only lost about 8 in that time.

Initially they do grow fast if fed right. I spend 1 hour before work. Then I come home for lunch to feed again. Another feeding at 6pm and the last about 9:30pm. I prolly spend 3-4 hours daily on them. It's a real part time job.

Thanks YA'll, it really is a labor of love. I have found that around 3 months you may get a sudden die off. It seems that some won't make the switch to different foods. No matter what you try. They just quit eating altogether. All I can do is keep trying.

I am going to have to try to raise Mysid shrimp. The problem is it takes so much room and work. If I ever get to the pointe of selling any, I will have invested twice as much as I could possibly sell them for.
