How to build a horsey pen?

Okay, the Boy is now thinking of a sea horse tank! Its a 75 (too big?) and I have all kinds of extra stuff for a system. What will be needed? I have a CS6-1 skimmer, VHOs, sumps etc.
What are the key things for a happy corral of horsies? What are the do's and dont's? What other fish can be kept with them? Anenomies?
lay out all the info you can for us please!

Robert

Robert a 75 will work, You don't need as much stuff to start it , You van use a skimmer and simple filter, If you are wanting to try to raise babies then you will have to block off the intakes, You don't want alot of flow. You can have other seahorses and pipe fish , make a few cleaner shrimp and the like , But not anything that will eat all the food before they do. anemone is not a good idea. Glad You are thinking about them , I am cooking dinner so in and out for now.

Heres the run down on what hes got to work with. 75tank, sump, CS6-1 skimmer, 440watts VHO and 90lbs live rock. The tank is drilled with two holes in each upper corner so one would be overflow the other return. I have a 635gph pump for the return also.Want to do sand.
What kind of husbandry habits are best? What about food? What are the donts?

I have my filtration tied directly into the sump for my reef tank. i use the seahorse tank like a refugium for my reef. just get some cool seaweed to go in it (stay away from calupera) or maybe some zoos or shrooms if you want to do some coral.

Robert, You can do Bb or ssb, The lights will be ok for growing macro algea, as Yiy can cut it back to 220 or even use the 449 watts. You can have some no stinging type corals in the tank, That will add to the beauty of the tank. tell him to have a few cleaner shrimp and maybe some small blue leg and snails , You can also have piprfish, Tey to get only tank raise ponies thet are eating frozen food. Have them show you before buying. It not real hard . In a 75 he can have a nice group .

No Robert , I feed my seahorse two times a day . sometimes only once. They eat in the morning before I go to work and then most nites. The Tank raised ones that are not wild caught are pretty east to take care of. Reserchis the thing to do.

Yup, I only feed once a day and then they pick at pods and such during the day.

You got the makings of a great system. The pump will be fine also. I have a mag 7 on mine and I split the return with a T on the end. It works perfectly.
I have calurpa and Xenia and mushrooms in mine. NO ANEMONIES, the ponies move to slow and will try to hitch to them. I also only feed the adults once a day. They hunt in the 100 lbs of rock all day.
Vince is right about the returns if you get a pair mating. This morning I looked in on the tank and realized one of the males had babies. I only could find 4 from a male that usually spits out 300. I guess the skimmer in the sump and fish in the other tank got the rest.
Mine is set up like twitterbaits. It is conected to the reef sump like a refugium.

Thanks everyone! I think well give this a go. Maybe set it up this weekend and then seed it with pods and let it set for a while before adding anyone. I wont be able to hook this to the big tank do to space and such but I think it will be great!

The tank will be great but the clown will have to go. They need to be in a species tank, pipe fish, Seahorses. The clown will bug them and do all the eating. The corals You will have to make sure they won't sting them,

yeah. take the clown out. first off, horsies need to be with eachother or pipefish and maybe a few shrimp. but second, clowns get very territorial when around other fish; a clown sort of needs its own space

but besides the clown, it will work out!
