aptasia and other nuisance anemones

I would like to use some of my live rock from my reef tank for my seahorse tank but I have quite a few aptasia and majeno anemones. I cannot be absolutely sure that there won;t be a small one on the rock. ANy suggestions?

Yes , Cook the rock, But before that use Kalk paste on any that You see, Like Twitterbait said before also, used dead rock and start with a seed from another tank and let the rock become live over time.

Make sure the rock is clean before it is in the horse tank. The first seahorse I lost was from an aiptasia. IME Kalk, Joe's Juice and Lemon juice all work well.

I kept a couple of peppermint shrimp on staff for maintence.

Dead rock will develop the aerobic bacteria overtime but I have my doubts if it will ever develop an anerobic population capable of completing the nitrogen cycle. JME

Would adding a few peppermint shrimp to the tank a few months prior to the horses clean out the smaller aptasia?

I have seeded dead dry rock many times in the past and had it develop the anerobic process... the one thing to realise is that it can take 12+ months for it to fully saturate the rock again. if it is covered in anenomes then i would say drop the rock in boiling FW for 1.5 min to kill everything on the surface and then place it in normal SW for a week or 2 with circulation. that should get all the nasties off of it.
