Question

White Jelly-like Growth in Shady Spots

I have recently noticed a strange white growth in several shady spots in my tank. It is a soft, jelly like texture. It is firmly attached to the underside and shady sides of the live rock, and does not move. It kind of grows in fingers, but it's not symmetrical. It kind of grows in tubes, and some are hollow on the ends. This stuff has spread to most of the shady and hard to reach/see areas of the tank.

I've attached a picture.

Obviously, it's not at all easy to describe. I've attempted to extensively search the forums and web, but my descriptors don't fit well in a search engine. Any ideas or search suggestions would be appreciated.

Best,
Laci

Have you touched it? Does it feel like a sponge? I had some that looked like this

Anyhow I purchased a conch and he ate it right up!

It kind of feels spongy except that it is hollow. There is some growing down where the conchs could eat it, but they don't seem interested.

looks like sponges. they are hollow/tubelike. you may get white, yellow, black, etc. i have alot of them. nobody eats them. if you let them grow, the black and white variety can be pretty with alot of branches.

Thanks for the ID. My main concern is that they've spread rapidly throughout the tank. I shouldn't be concerned that they're taking over?
