A sponge filter is enough but you can use the powerfilter too. You dont really want a lot of current so the sponge filter with an air stone is enough. But if you dont have that go ahead and use the powerfilter. The powerfilter can be helpful after you medicate and you need to run carbon to remove the medication.

Remember to test for ammonia and nitrIte twice a day and be prepared to do 50% WC to keep those levels at 0. This is important in a newly set up QT/Hospital tank as the biological filtration (nitrifing bacteria) is not built up yet.

Following along...I have a 14g TBS biocube that I just added part 2 to and I've been hearing ominous "clicking" sounds whenever the lights are low ever since part 1. I haven't seen or caught a thing. :/

TBS= Tampa bay Saltwater, it is a company that sells livestock, and aquacultured liverock. THe rock is known to have many hitchhikers, some good, some bad.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

I heard a great way is baiting them. You use a small piece of rock and place the bait in there, the worms should go to it over night, and then you remove the rock..... I have not tried this technique as of yet as I do have bristle worms they don't seem to be causing any trouble at this point.

The worms in the images are definitely normal aquaria Caribbean spp. of polycheates, they are not your problem. Find the rock that is the issue (the liar home of the Stomapod), and suspend it over a bucket of seawater at night while the house is quiet. The Stomapod will be in the bucket by the morning if it is in that rock. Sometime it takes two nights, as some spp. of Stomapods are more active during the day. Just leave the rock suspended in air over a bucket of seawater and leave it there. Even if it has coral on it, removing the coral to another rock during this time, plus listening carefully to the rest of the rock in the tank for ANOTHER mantis should take care of the issue with the mantis in the rock. The seltzer water only works if you can flush out all the pockets in the rock, but draining it over a bucket will force the Stomapod to go looking for seawater to respire in, and its presence in the bucket the next day is confirmation for you as well. You may have to go through all the rock in the tank in this manner, but it will end up making the mantis either show itself or revealing a hiding place it employs, especially if you move all the “checked” rock to a barrel or another tank until all your original rock in your display has been processed. This is an extremely effective method to remove stomapods for a very frustrating intelligent pest issue.

This can be a very frustrating problem, but very satisfying when you finally resolve it. Losing a few expensive fishes makes it worth your while.
