Stone Crab trap

I have a stone crab that needs removal. I've tried the inverted bottle neck trap, but I keep catching my peppermint shrimp.

I've pulled the rock, and he just retreats back in to the holes where you can't get him, and I can't leave it out of the water for long.

Anybody have some ideas?

Could you take the rock out and just put the rock in a small new tank. Then when he is out of his hole just pull the rock out of the tank. Then you can net him.

The problem with this is that the rock he likes has about 4 other rocks stacked on it, and I hate to break it all down, again. Then again, I may have no other choice.

have you tried the glass trick yet? stick a glass on the bottom of the tank facing upwards. the glass needs to be at least as tall as the crab is wide, so it can not get out. if you can bury it in the sand it would be better. put a pice of food at the bottom of the glass. the crab will go into get the food but will not be able to crawl back out.

I second Geoff's method. I believe JennM has had much success with it, too.

Good luck!!
