something digging tunnels!
This is probably the weirdest thing I have seen in my 24 gal nano. There are tunnels in the sand I can see from the sides of the glass. Some of those are worms, no big deal. But a couple of them are like chutes through which "something" is shooting up sand and making a little pile at the top. I NEVER see the actual creature. Just the sand coming up! What the heck is it?

Good guys from my experience and what i've read, seem to drag any dirt with their tenticles and i guess eat it.
Heres a cool site that i look at when i see anything alien in my tank. You'll probably not see the body of the worm just the tenticles, i have a few living in my rock and also the substrate, ugly critters. It was a few days after that pic that the tenticles appeared

yes, I see piles of sand like that one in the picture! And also I have seen these pink, kind of irridescent fat worms (slugs) with a sucker mouth and they do eat the sand! I can see it going through their little bodies. But I would like to know if these are good or bad. I can't believe it does not hurt to have that sand going down!

you got some spaghetti worms!
they are beneficial, you can even buy some to help clean the tank on some of TRT's sponsors.

going from that, assuming they are in the sand, i would guess a worm from the Capitellidae family. heres a link with some pics of a few from that family. http://links.baruch.sc.edu/Data/Spec...icinfauna.html but without a good upclose pic its near impossible to ID a worm.

Yeah that looks like them except that you cannot tell the color of those from the picture. Mine are a pretty pink! I was nudging them too much so they have now moved to safer quarters in the middle of the tank!
