red bubble


brought home some pink polyps from my lfs and there was a red bubble just coming out of the back with a stalk anyone know what this is

its most likely bubble algea just pull it off.

If it is valonia, make sure that you don't "pop" it as you take it out...otherwise you may have a tank full of bubble algae.

There is what one may call red bubble. It is a red algae. Either one of the Scinaia sp or Botryocladia sp. In the reef tank they often get over densified such as this. Julian, Charles and I have been going back and forth on these and Julian will have some comments on them in the next issue of FAMA, Reef Notes column and some stuff on comb jellies, all with pics.

The attachment below is one of the pics of the red algae that appears to be popping up everywhere lately.

I have that in my nano...I assumed it was a close relative of valonia, although for me it doesn't seem to spread as quickly.
