Pyramid snails?

I think I have a very bad infestation of these so called pyramid snails. My tank has been neglected for some time now (around 5-6 months), please dont get all over that...its a looong story.
But anyway, The other night I looked in my tank with the lights off and I saw dozens of these small conical shaped snails all over one side of my tank. These are about the size of a grain of rice which is how I hear these pests described.I have noticed these once or twice during the day and I picked them out. I have 2 clams which to this point seem to be not affected but I am afraid that will change.
Is it possible these are something else since they have not yet attacked my clams? Will they do any other damage? and most importantly...How do I get rid of them with a realistic approach.

They could also be a species of Cerithidae, which are harmless detritus consumers. If you had dozens on one side of the tank, but none in your clams (and look carefully), then they might just be baby ceriths. Can you get a pic?

great link paintbug...but I need a microscope to see what I got. I actually have a snail here in front of me but I cant tell what it is. This thing is so small I cant tell the characteristics. I have to be honest...it looks bad. I can not see a cover over the whole. These move pretty fast in the tank too. But I still have not seen them actually on my clams. Mabey they are killing off my snails first?...HMMMMMMMMMMMM

Really? I didn't know that!
