hi- I asked the owner about the bulbs (bulb) and he said it is 2 months old with 5-7 months left on it. I wipe down the glass of the hood once a week as well.
I have twice the flow he had in it for a year. He had a little powerhead in there and I have two koralia 1's. It is constantly moving in the flow- how much should it move? Do I want it really waving around or just a gentle waving of the arms (right now I have it slightly above gentle wave )...
Nothing in the proximity that could sting it. It is in the sand by itself. The only things that touch it are those crabs. I dont know what kinds they are- blue legged and orange legged... i think one are halloweens?
I have some algae i noticed today on the back of the tank in an area I cannot clean due to the big rock in here. Is there anything i can do to get rid of this brown algae or is this just a natural cycle. That is really the only problem I am having and it isnt bad but it is there...

well... at this point, we'll just see what happens. I tested everything and it all checked out. I took my water to the fish store and it all looks *perfect*. I'll just give it some time to hopefully open up again. I just dont see why it would just all the sudden shut down. At least I know it isn't anything i am doing wrong with my water...

...this morning i woke up, checked out the tank and the crabs had knocked the gorgonian over and some arms were laying in my open brain... ugh... i figured that would be the end of it. But at lunch I checked it out... the lights had just come on... and i saw POLYPS!!! They were just starting to come out and some other areas looked like they were about to open up.... keeping my fingers crossed!
***came home, all closed up maybe they will poke back out this evening...

just an fyi update in case anyone uses this in the future for the same problems... this critter is still alive but is not showing much sign of life. Every now and then it sends out a few polyps- looks like it may burst out in a few places but then closes up again. All my parameters are good... just keeping an eye on it to see if it comes back... been a week since it had all its polyps out. Crabs still all over it from time to time, a little brown slime on it but not much...

today my gorgonian sent out a bunch of polyps- woohoo! It still doesn't look all that great but I am hopeful it is on the road to recovery. 25% of the polyps are fully extended, another 25% are out just a little, and all the rest are at least showing like they want to come out. Great great sight... I hope it keeps it up. I turned the powerheads off for a few minutes and dropped some food over it so hopefully it just got some nutrients.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

hey td... I actually just went with the normal diet that the guy before me used (the frozen coral food with plankton). It was closed up for about 7-10 days and all my parameters were good and then it just started to slowly perk up again. Right now it is FULLY 100% all polyped out so I am so happy for that, but it did molt *again*. This is the 3rd or 4th time it has shed its skin since I have had it. I don't know wy this has happened and I can only assume this is not a very healthy cycle, but hopefully this will be the last time for a while.
I've attached a pic... you can see that the skin is a bit speckly... doesn't look quite as good as before. Some of the areas are almost transparent... but there is still a fair amount of skin left to be shed. I'll be interested to see how it looks once it has its full new set of skin... but for now I am just so happy that its polyps are out again. I thought it was a goner.

It looks to be on the road to recovery. is that the most recent placement of the Gorgonian?

td it is beautiful right now. I couldn't be happier. Looks like a full recovery. I dont know a lot about corals yet but the guy i bought this from said that was the prize of the tank and also the hardest to keep... and he was right i think But it is looking great right now. I did move it a little further away from the glass to try and avoid that buildup of the brown algae, but I havent altered the placement significantly. Currently it is totally clean, but I am only a few days from the fresh molt. It looks strong and healthy again. I have a koralia 2 on the way to replace the 1 that is supplying its current right now. I think a little more good current toward the glass couldn't hurt.

Congratulations! I keep several spp. of photosynthetic Gorgonians, almost all of them need enough current to keep them swaying in the current.
Glad to see that it was just following through its normal behavior.
