oh no, is this what I think it is?

I was looking in my tank and saw a worm lurking in my hammer coral. It was red and looked to be spiney. I have heard about worms with this sort of appearance that grow to 8' and eat soft corals. What should I do, and do you think I'm right about the type of worm? I think ive heard the name fire worm??? He seems to be about 1"-1.5", but I can't be certain.

There are fire worms, but most often you'll find the garden-variety bristle worm in your tank. They're good for clean-up of detritus, but will eat damaged/dying tissue on corals and will also eat any fish, shrimp etc. that dies in the tank.

If you keep a clean tank, the bristle worm population will stay small. The more food supply available, the more worms you'll have.

Generally, they are a good thing.
