Not sure what this can be...

Can you help ID this?

On the skeletal part of my Frogspawn coral I have 2 little "volcanos" shaped thing. there is a opening at the top with it looks like a little red thing will reluctantly hide in the volcano when poked. I can't describe it since it's so small. The outer surface is camoflaged by it color and coraline to blend in with it's surrounding (the reason I didn't post a picture it can't be seen at least with my camera). It every now and then spews this 'spider web' which would pull down one of the frogspawn "arms" it doesn't appear to hurt the coral at all.

I've looked up truncate, sea squirts, and barnacle but none of these seem to be it. Don't have any ideas what else they could be.

Thanks

It's a vermitid snail I think, it uses the mucus web to catch it's food. I have one too. Actually, I'd like to get rid of it.

Yes, it would make sense that it uses this web to catch food. But for some reason it doesn't give me the impression of being a worm. I guess it's because it doesn't ever stretch out of the volcano and there's no crown like a feather.

Hoang, looking into the crater it appears to have a red "door" that pulls in when poked. Similar to snails. Does your critter have this red thing? Any idea what this thing is called?

I want to read up on it.

I have hundreds of them ond i do believe they are worms. I even have some growing on a powerhead. I found out what they were about a year ago but of course forgot the name......i do remember that one of the odd things about them is that if they end up on the bottom side of a rock they can go dormant for years and then when becoming exposed again come back out fo dormancy........its bugging me i cant remember what theyare called...im going to search for a minute

they DO have a mouth like the vermitid snail but i didnt notice the vermitids growing in that spiral shape.....and i dont recall that being the name i found...but being as it is SO similar though i probably just dont recall and it WAS a snail......

long term loss of short term memory
