Need help to Identify

Found this growing in the tank and don't know what it is.
It is approx 1 inch across and 1/2 inch high, the stalk is 1/4 inch thick.
Any one know?
Thanks
Ian

I feel your pain with the image posting. Looks like a button polyp or another palythoa sp.

Welcome to TRT!!!

I am also going to say palythoa at this point based on the angle of the pictures.

You should be able to attach pictures to your thread without 20 posts. When posting you need to click on the button that says manage attachments.

Thanks Deric and Aquawolf.

I've got no idea where they came from.
I tried to frag a mushroom coral that wasn't going too well onto live rock from my sump, my first attempt at fragging.
The frags disintegrated turning to mush, not a pretty sight.
These (hopefully) button polyp grew out of the ashes (or actually more correctly from where the mush was)
Ian

I'll try the "manage attachments" to reattach the photos

More than likely the button polyp was already there as a very small hitchhiker and just managed to survive and grow to the size where you can now see it. It will reproduce on its own and you will have many more of them later, as long as it continues to thrive.

As for the mushrooms, did you put any pieces back into the tank? I have actually seen some put in a blender and turned into little tiny pieces and then poured into the tank. It took a while, but little mushrooms eventually popped up all over the tank. Those corals seem to be virtually indestructable as a tiny piece can grow into a new one.

Best of luck!

Hopefully the buttons will thrive.

I cut the mushroom coral into 8 pieces and used needle and fishing line to attach the pieces to live rock and put it back in my main tank.
After a couple of weeks the mushroom had disappeared, after turning to mush.
I had left it there after reading the coral could grow, but nothing has happened (yet)
