just a boring, old Majano?

i'm just hoping its something cooler than a majano.

gosh, you'd think i'd know all this stuff by now! but the majano i am used to have bulbier shaped tentacle tips.

so i'm going to make sure. the pics are as usual, horrible. this camera is great for taking pics of people and stuff, but no good for tanks and things inside tanks- or its just me. i'm not a big fan of blaming equipment when its an operator error.

i'm also hating the fact that i have only had time to pop in here when i need something, no time to hang out. i feel bad, so i'll say it here. i miss coming here for the friendliness and stuff, really i do.

but this is the best place and i'd rather be here like this than not at all!

well, here are the bad pics.

hopefully you can make it out, the creature in question is in the center of the image.

i found it under one of my zoanthid rocks. the rocks that come from the coral stores always grow algae on them though my base rock does not--- but i found the creature under the rock when i picked it up to pull off the algae.
the rock is at the top of the tank and the possible majano is living on the underside of it.
its basically brownish red with the usual greenish mouth. it has a fairly round and smooth disc and pointy tentacles with a somewhat fat antler-like shape.

i actually thought it was a crab with a ton of legs at first cause i saw it from the side as i was picking up the rock.

overall size with extended tentacles is a bit smaller around than a dime.

so, shall i mix up the pickling lime?

thanks all!

It looks kind of like a button polyp to me, it is a little hard to tell from one perspective. It doesn't look as bulb-y as mojanoes I am used to seeing. Could you get a side shot?

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

i will try and get more pics soon. i had prodded at it after the first three shots, two pokes with a pipette and it retracted into a little hollow (very majano-like and that was when i thought thats what it might be) it does look like a button polyp- size and everything but a bit more translucence and its kept itself in a pretty dark area, with no stalk or inclination towards light, i posted these pics and dubbed around a bit, decided to try getting the camera out again and its still in its retracted position.

good thing its a smallish rock and goes back into place easily cause i'll have to keep looking every so often to get another shot.

it keeps its disc very close to the rock.

hey, you are a moderator now congrats!

thanks, i can rule out aiptasia, i nuked a couple of those this morning. this thing has no stalk like aips, and appears more 'leathery'.
its still retracted.

the uncooperative bugger.

Please post a better image that has the tentacle margin in focus, though I tend to think nemonea c.f. majno from what I can see. There is much morphological variation in the tentacles of anemones depending on the current set of water parameter variables and lighting, even their feeding status; think of BTA's and the variability of their tentacles.
