Question

Is This a Nudibranch?

Found this guy in my tank a week or so ago. He was stuck behind one of the powerheads (see first pic..topside pattern) for a while, then I caught him sliding along the bottom of the tank at night (see second pic... the belly of the beast).

Any idea if this guy is worth keeping, or should I get rid of him?

Bob

Could it be a stometella snail? The pics are too small for me to get a good idea. Nudi's are frilly though so I don't think its a nudibranch

That doesn't look like a stomatella IMO.

It's a chiton in the genus Cryptoplax. for the most part chitons are grazers that eat micro-algae plus whatever else micro is growing on the rock & glass.

Thanks, Leslie. I was reasonably sure it wasn't a stomatella... I've got a few of those, too. A Google search on cryptoplax revealed several picxtures of the critter... cryptoplax larvaeformis.
