Many serpulids have an operculum. One of the radioles ('feathers') in the branchial crown becomes modified and essentially acts as a door when the animal withdraws into its tube. These can survive much longer periods of emersion in fresh water (while passing through the Panama Canal for example) so a 15 minute dip isn't a big deal for them.
The branchial crown is essentially 2 half circles that appear to be one structure. In some serpulids & sabellids as the worm grows & the branchial crown adds radioles one end of each half forms spirals. This one looks as if its regrowing the crown and you can see the shape of the crown really nicely in your pic. Okay if I download it? I'd like to include it in an upcoming aquarium club presentation.

Feel free to Download it Leslie I can try and take some better pics if you'd like also

These are fine. If you wouldn't mind sending me higher resolution files that would look better when projected that would be wonderful. I can send you my email via PM.

I have a few of those things in my tank. I thought they were one of those snail things... I stand corrected
