Id help please.

Please bare with my terrible photos. Camera phone is the only option for me at this time. I just bought this piece or rock last night. Since the pic is hard to make out all I can say is that whatever they are, they are all dark red in color and have like dull little spikes on them.
I'd say there are probably 20-30 of them on the rock. I may pull the rock out later and try to get a better pic.

I think it is like coralline algae or something. I know what you mean. Looks like little pieces of coral growing?

they are foraminiferans

quote- These little creatures are basically shelled protozoans, one celled organisms (Subphylum: Sarcodina - the amoebas). They form shells primarily composed of calcareous material, with siliceous material from sponges, or other organic material. They are mostly sessile (non-moving), but can move with the use of temporary structure called a "pseudopodia". This little "arm" reaches out and pulls the rest of the critter along. In any event, they are harmless bacterial/detrital consumers. There are many different shell shapes and colors that these guys may have
