Huge Bristle Worm!!!!

I just caught a huge bristle worm. I saw him in a hole on a big piece of LR in my tank. He has escaped capture about 10 times before tonight, I have cut 1-2" pieces of of him with scissors a couple of times. Well I ran and grabbed a screw driver this time and stabed him while I moved some rock around with my other hand. He was strong and almost got away again. Well I pryed him up out of the hole far enough to get ahold with some pliers, and it was finally over. He secreted a milky substance into the water that made it pretty cloudy in a 75 gallon tank. He is about 6" long and 3/4" wide with 1/4 bristles. I think there are a couple of inches still in the rock that I cant get to. He was definetly big enoug to eat some small fish if he wanted to. Well here are the pics.

Has anyone had any as big or bigger than this? Post your pics if you have any.

Wow, and I thought the few small ones in my tank were a problem. Guess I better get them fast.

Ya, I bought my whole setup from a lady who had no idea what she was doing and I have hundreds of little .5-2" ones, I need to get a sixline wrasse to take care of them, my coral banded shrimp isnt keeping up. I have seen him catch and eat a couple, thats fun to watch. I think that worm would have ate my CB shrimp if they went one on one though.

Yea, the shrimp would have bitten off more than it could chew I would think. I am getting a shrimp tomorrow. I think all of the ones in mine are small. I just added in a bit of rock, and they appear to have hitched a ride on it.

does anyone know if the milky stuff the worm discharged is poisonious for the corals or fish, etc. in my tank. It is pretty cloudy in there. And some of my mushrooms have shrivled up as if the lights are off.

There is a link floating around of a 6 FOOT LONG bristleworm. If I can find it I will post it. When I moved my 90 into a 75, I flushed two that were almost a foot long. Harmless creatures, they just scared my daughter to the point I had to flush them.

You say that they are harmless creatures. I have read so much stating that they are a real danger in any tank. Since I have noticed several smaller ones, as I asked in another post, I am trying to understand if I should try to remove them. I am not new to saltwater, but new to reef. Any suggestions?

As far as I can tell they havent harmed any of the corals in my tank. But I would feel a little better without them in my tank, I dont need them I have plenty of other scavengers.
