Wow, if I had something like that in my tank I am pretty sure that my wife would be staying with her mom until I got rid of it. It is hilarious how she reacted to the sight of even a small bristle worm. Thanks for the link, I will be sure to share this story to friends. What an amazing worm.

This is a bit off topic, but I have been thinking of getting some nice looking marine plants. I have considered some shaving brush plants. I figure that they will put a nice look in the tank. Any recommendations for plants? Not doing this for removal of toxins, just for looks.

Almost worth keeping one in a bucket so you can pull it out when you need some alone time

i think thats just a fire worm.

i have 1 10 cm long in my tank and hundreds of small.these r supposed to be harmless.
u can tell that its a predator if it has some tentacles out from its head.
ive had marine tanks for 5 years and newer had any probs with my corals.
and since my tank is a aggressive(Groupers)/corals,there is nothing to pick @ them exept my skunk cleaner shrimp.
fire worms are good @ eating food leftovers and route the gravel for u.

Thanks! Now I know what was poking into my hand after I put my LR in--ouch! I saw a couple of [much] smaller versions of these poking their heads out of the LR last night and I was wondering what they were. That is one icky looking worm.

It's hard to see perspective with these pictures but this guy was over 12" when he was fully extended. He was supposedly a fireworm, but I'm not sure. I had him in my mantis tank for the longest time, and then one day the mantis started bugging out (paralyzed to be exact) so I figured maybe the fireworm somehow got him. The poor fireworm went into the QT and disintegrated somehow after about a week or two. The mantis lived and I figured out I just need a WC – it seems it gets very unhappy if I don’t do a WC at least every 2 weeks. Unhappy = near death laying on the sandbed… he’s such a faker! 

I felt bad... he just sort of sat on the sand lounging about. Unlike the other 10 fireworms I have in my tanks eating my starfire(purple?) polyps.

It was a great tank. It was TOTM several times, but there was a accident that pretty much killed everything. Last I read was even after trying to get it up and running again, it is now sitting empty while he takes a break for a while...
