Question

Help with aiptasia!

I am new to this saltwater thing, and I just noticed I have some aiptasia on my live rock. I only have like three but I just found out they are pests and can multiply pretty quickly.

How can I get rid of them without hurting my two clownfish, long tentacle anenome, green polpys, ricordea, and sea mats?

I noticed that my long tentacle anenome stung the crap out of the biggest aiptasia and he shriveled up and lost some of his tentacles. Could that get rid of them?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

You've got a couple of options. If it is just a few, mixing some kalkwasser (a calcium hydroxide powder, which can be bought at the LFS or at the grocery store as pickling lime... look for the brand Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime) into a paste and shooting the aiptasia should kill them off without otherwise hurting the tank. Also, peppermint shrimp eat them, so getting one or two of them may solve your problem as well (though make sure you know what species you're getting, I think there are a couple that are sometimes misnomered peppermint shrimp).

Hey,

I went to my local pet store and I found this thing called Joe's juice. You just zap them with it and minutes later they are gone. It work excellent! I didn't have many, only about ten so I just did all of them at once.
