it is their slime coating......and more than likely they will perish....if they are losing their slime coating something is stressin them BIG TIME.....

when my tank crashed all my fish looked like that and all but one died....

what are your levels?
any new equipment?
any old equipment that might be bad?ex...old return pump
any chance of ANY TYPE of chemical getting in the tank? ex...glass cleaner is a big one....
what dish do you have??
how long have they been in the tank?

need more info to better help ya out.....

Hi, I have a new metal halide light and i went to that from T5's but the fish started to look like this a few days before i put the light on. I also just went to a HOB overflow and a sump and all the equipment is brand new (Sump, Skimmer, Overflow, Return pump, and all hosing ). I dont know what this is ? what do you think i should do ? Thank You

test your water first off......something has gotten into the water from something.....

what type of return pump are you running?
did you wash the new stuff in hot water?

the only thing i could do to level things out was 15g water changes everyday and skim SUPER WET......and run carbon......

let us know what your test results are on your water parameters....

Hi, I didn't wash any of the equipment off before using it because my local fish store set it up. My return pump is a Supreme Mag 9.5.
My water Parameters are
Nitrites--0
Ammonia--0
PH--8.3
Nitrates--20
calcium--420
Kh--224ppm

nitrates arent good.......i would start doing some water changes......and skim wet if you have a skimmer.....

when my fish started doing that my trates where at 20 and trites where at 2

took me about 3 weeks to get everything to level out....but i removed the source of my issue.....

there shouldnt be an issue with the mag pump....good pumps but you never know....

equipment shoulda been washed off just in case something was on it....assembly grease or anything could of been on or in any of it....

is this a BRAND new setup? how long did you let it cycle before adding everything?

No i dont have a quarantine tank and i already tried to catch one of them and its inpossible to get them. They hide and go in and out of rocks so fast. Will this heal itself on its own or do i have to treat them ? What about a UV sterilizer ?

uv may work but itll also kill the good stuff for the tank.....

you can try Hydroplex.....dip for fish to help cure diseases but you have to catch them to dip them.....

what ever you do DONT ADD MEDICATION TO THE MAIN TANK......very bad mistake alot of people make......

oodinium somewhat looks like this and is a SUPER FAST KILLER.......

could also be marine white spot......copper is a good treatment for that...BUT NOT IN THE MAIN TANK>........the hippo is a major carrier of this disease and it does spread rapidly......

i really recommend trying to catch them and dip them......

even a fresh water dip will help but that hippo is very sensative...depending on his health is gona depend if he lives thru this...
