difference betwen an aip and feather duster?

Hello, I'm new to this addiction. I've just set up a 10 gallon nano reef tank w/ live sand and rock. I found some things that look like aip but they also resemble feather dusters, is there any way to tell for sure? Also, they seem to be spitting out some tiny particles every so often. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, this site is great!!

Welcome aboard, jeza!! w00000000000000000000000000000t!!!

A feather duster will completely recoil into the base when agitated. Does yours do this?

They look little little pinto beans and shoot out almost as faithfully as Old Faithful erupts! If you tanks conditions are good, you will have them everywhere!
