The last 3 pics are Anemonea cf. majano, and you are fortunate to see them this soon while they are still easy to control.

Get some pickling lime, make a paste about the consistancy of thin toothpaste, and (using a deep frying sytinge and injector needle), cover each one wih a small pile of the Ca(OH)2 slurry. See: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6...-i-134042.html for detailed explainationof the process.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

Are you fairly sure? I found this ( http://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11...ot_parent_id=4 ) picture a few days ago and this looks dead on what I think i see. Of course, Im not sure if this is any better... It deffinately has a mouth in the middle and closes up during the night, when the lights are turned off.

Last thing... How come I read all these cool stories about people getting cool hitchikers and all I get is aiptasia and other pest anemone? Is it an indication of the store Im buying from, the type of rock, or just a pure coincidence?

Those are majano, good eye TD. Haha most people have these problems with aptaisia and majano, but paying 8 bucks a pound for rocks better have assured me from any bad hitchhikers! Im looking for some majano for my tank

I have a rock flower and your looks much more like an aiptasia or majano (I have a few of those as well)

Aiptasia do very well in aquariums... it is not always a sign of where you get your rock. You are more likely to get it from aquacultured florida rock than Fiji rock IMO but I would not consider it a sign of a poor quality rock. I think for every cool hitchhiker most of us get we have picked up a dozen we consider a nuisance. It is really like playing the lottery

My coolest hitchhiker so far has been the huge colony of button polyps i got on manmade rock. And that only took 1 bad hitchhiker! HA!

Ok, now im confused. Thats what I paid for this rock... It was suposed to be quality Fiji rock and fully cured. TD says its bad and now it sounds like Reef is saying its good? Bad or Good?

Thanks... THat explains it. Im not the type to even win a free ticket on a dollar scratch off, so I guess I should feel lucky that I dont have more aiptasia then I do. (which I have some and this is deffinately diffrent from that or It looks diffrent anyway) My aiptasia is in pic 1 of this thread.

Good or bad are relative statements. Reef wants to set up a species pico with majano. They are attractive but they sting and spread like weeds. This would make an interesting pico but they will take over a tank. A mantis shrimp is a plague in a reef tank you don't want it in but very intersting to watch in a species tank. So good and bad are relative to what you want. For your average setup they are bad news bears.

Yup yup get em out of your display tank. I want to create a desk tank for myself with them because they would spread all over it fast and would look nice on my desk, but wont put anything in the tank other than those. They pack a punch and spread very fast so get them out. Good rock means nice porous rock for bacteria colonization. I guess i was just lucky.

Thanks again Jenglish! I pulled up some pics of this majano and it deffinately could be this. I hadnt ever seen or heard of it until now, so I never saw the pic either. But I'll take your word and take the opportunity to rid my system of the few of these and 1 remaining aiptasia, at the same time.
