creature id help

Sorry I don;t have a pic to help but... I just placed some new live rock in my tank and just noticed what can best be described as a "gray caterpillar" about 1/2 inch long crawling around. Does anyone know if this is a bristleworm or possibly some sort of sea cucumber?

Thanks a lot

more likely a bristleworm. is it thin or chunky. if chunky it could be cuke, but these are fairly uncommon as hitchhikers. bristle worms are all over the place though.

It is chunky, that's why I didn't think it was a bristle. In any case it'll probably die cause Im using the rock to cycle.

could be, but critters that live in the rocks are actually pretty hardy. they are used to some extreme conditions due to the tides.

You say it's chunky...like finger-sized chunky?

Well, not quite as wide as a finger, but it's not thin like a worm. It's just very stubby. Again, proportioned kind of like a small caterpillar. Of course now I haven't seen it since the first day.

Does it climb up the rocks, and into the rocks?

yes, but very slowly. you really can't even see it move. I just saw it in a few different places then it disappeared ont the underside of the rock.

Sorry, but the creature in questioned never resurfaced. Now however, I'm seeing some long "arms" reaching out of the rock at night. Have seen them for about 5 days now, but never a body. As soon as the flashlight hits them, they retreat back into the rock. My guess is some sort of brittle star. any thoughts Creature Id'ers?

if the arms are really long with small spines on it it is prolly a black brittle star. their body tends to say in the rock and their long arms sweep the area for any food particles.

this is a chiton.

He finally came out again. Hope this photo is clear enough for identification. The thing in question is about an inch long. Thanks a lot.
