My guess is a stomatella...which are harmless.

Whoever guessed sea cucumber was right. The body shape and the elongate papillae all along the body are characteristic for this group of cukes.

I have something in my rock that looks like what you originally described, but nothing like your picture!

I haven't even seen the whole thing. I see about 3 inches sometimes, but the rest never comes out of the rock. It's not chunky. It's kind of a peachy-clear colored apendage (?) with lots of whitish spikes. It's so wierd. We see him come out a little more each day. My camera got water spilled on it so for now I can't take a pic.

Any guesses?
