Can an emerald crab not be green

I found either a long forgotten emerald crab that has changed to a brownish pink.... or some kind of hitchhiking crab. It is already in my cooking vat, and emerald or not it is not going back in, just curious.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

The more I look at it the more I think the arms are too short to be an emerald. Probably some hitchhiker from who knows where. I tolerate the mild antics of hermits but other than that I steer clear of crabs.

I was under the impression that the hairy legs made a mythrix (emerald) crab. I have one that is a grey with coraline on him. Very fuzzy legs.

Emerald crabs are best identified by the tips of their claws. An emerald has flat rounded tips on the end of the claw. To me, it looks like a pair of spoons clamping together. Many crabs have hairy legs so that's not the best way to id them. Any crab with pointed tips on the claws should be treated as suspicious.
