Black thing and worms

In the past few weeks a weird black thing has shown up in my tank attached to a piece of rock. It appears to be slowly getting larger, but doesn't move... kind of like a round bead of shiny black tar.

In my 55-Gallon tank I have a Yellow Tang, 2 Ocellaris Clowns, a Scooter Blenny, a Red Shrimp with a white stripe (I think it is a Skunk Shrimp), a Butterfly Fish and Brain Colral (both added after the black thing arrived), numerous snails and Hermit Crabs, and I recently found that I have some rather large worms (at least 4) as well as some small pinkish bristle worms.

Should I try to remove the black thing? And, should I be concerned by the worms?

Thanks for any help, I'm going to try to share a photo of the black thing.

The white bit on the black thing is reflection from my camera's flash.

The black thing is what we call a green pearl. : )

its bubble algae, not a huge deal but you wont want it to go rampant on you. It wont unless you have a nutrient import/export imbalance.....

If you can gently remove it without breaking it it would be a good thing. If it doesnt easily come off i like to take a needle and syringe and suck the juice outof it and then remove the shell.

AS far as the worms go, without pics is hard to tell...the bristle worms arent a problem, just dont pick them up with your bare hands. Most likely the otheres arent a problem either but again....cant say for sure without pics......

: )

What Fly Guy said!

Whatever you do, don't pop the valonia!

Valonia......just keep on top of where it decides to spread. I never had it until recently, and removing it when possible(like stated, don't pop it) is hopefully going to eventually eradicate it.

I got a needle & syringe and aspirated the sucker. It is now out and I haven't seen a re-occurance.

On a sad note, I had ammonia spike and lost my butterfly fish and clown fish. It has been a busy week of water changing to avoid losing the rest of them! I can't believe my inverts and tang survived.

If the valonia pops, it increases the potential to spread "seeds" all over the tank. Bad, bad, bad.

Sorry for your losses, jeannewojo.
