Anemone Help. Please
I am brand new to all this, so I am a little lost. But when I got my live rock I had a beautiful Condylactis Anemone tagging a long. Anyways the first couple of days he was all open and healthy looking. For the last 24 hours he is either completely inside or all shribbled looking. Is this bad? Is there anything I can do? What and how do I feed these guys? So far he has had some frozen mytis shrimp. Thank-you and sorry for all of the questions.
Joe

Hi Kelli,
I've had him about 4 days. Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20 ppm, specific gravity 1.022, water temp. 76 degrees and at this time that is all I ahve the ability to test for. Thanks,
Joe

Hi Everyone,
A little update, the Anemone will go from all shribbled to all open and back to all shribbled. He has eaten some mytis shrimp and a small piece of raw, uncooked shrimp. So is this normal behavior? Even when he does come all the way back out the tips of his tentacles look weird. Thank-you very much.

Update
Apparently my Anemone is ok. I've been feeding him a very small piece of raw shrimp every other day and he seems to be doing well. He still goes from all the way out to shribbled and completely inside himself. I guess that's normal? Thank you,
Joe

What kind of shrimp is best? Right now I've been using uncooked, raw shrim from the local grocery store, but could I use a bag of frozen shrimp and just thaw them as needed? Thank-you

So once a week is the best for an anemone? And frozen shrimp or krill will work? How about Brittle Stars? Once a week? Thank-you

Hi Joe,
Yes it is normal for the anemone to open and close. Normally if they keep good color and remain attached to the rock they are fine. Every 3 days to a week is good for feeding. Any raw uncooked shrimp is fine. You can also feed them krill, silversides, sand eels....really anything meaty. The good think about frozen fish food such as krill is that it is normally vitamin enriched. Anemone's do prefer mature systems due to their sensitivity. Keep an eye out for the anemone unattaching or appearing slimy. If one dies in your tank it can kill everything if not caught in time.
good luck!

I feed mine only about once a week and have used shrimp from the bait shop/grocery store with no problems as well as lancefish and krill. When I feed my fish the frozen cubes I sprinkle it in the water right over the anemone and it gets a few 'bites' then too.

Thank-you every one sounds great. I have cut back on feeding and closely monitor the water.

normal response to feeding, once a week feeding, maybe even less if you have adequate lighting. Only feed in chunk sizes the anemone can easily take in wihin 5 minutes. They will regurgitate what is left over after a few days, normal activity also.
