UV sterilizers

Hello all! I am just getting started with a 30 gallon what I hope will be a successul mini-reef tank. I have 35 pounds of awesome fiji and Tonga LR full of growth, live sand and a CPR bakpak skimmer. I was hoping to add a small UV sterilizer for added protection. Any success with the Coralife turbotwist 8 or 9 volt? Seems to be in the price range, though thats not always the best guide.
Thanks!

I think you mean 8 or 9 WATTS!That's a good size for your setup.

UV sterilizer

Such a nube! Yeah, I meant Watts not volts. Thanks for your kind reply. Anybody have success with the Coralife turbotwist? Or all they all about the same. I have learned to avoid those ebay junk items like Jebo. Thanks again, excellent resource.

Is UV a good choice? I am looking at using a 24 watt in a reef 90. What are the benefits and the downsides?

Take it for what its worth, I am new to this hobby. But I have read a ton and looked at all kinds of forums. I was told UV sterilizers greatly reduce bacteria and unwanted ugly algae growth especially if you have a smaller, high maintenance tanks or buy fish at a LFS where water quality is well lets just say less than stellar. IMO, that's most of the retail chain pet shops! However I could be wrong, I am a nube.

it will only get rid of free floating algae not any other algae in your display.
