Thinking about replacing the CLS

I've got a Mag 24 plumbed with 1.5" pipe for my external CLS. It's been running for over a year, but I'm not happy with the heat, micro-bubbles or the noise. I've tried closing the ball valve on the output side which quieted it down quite a bit, but it's still pretty loud. So I'm looking for a quieter, cooler and hopefuly less expensive way to keep the water flowing in the tank.

I've been looking at SEIO pumps instead of Tunze because I can't afford to break the bank right now.

Mag 24:
$133 2400gph 265W

SEIOs come in the following models:
$38.99 620 gph 8W
$52.99 820 gph 18W
$61.99 1100 gph 21W
$68.99 1500 gph 34W
$78.00 2600 gph 55W

Energy efficiency based on volume of water moved per Watt (GPH divided by total watts):
620: 77.5 GPH per Watt
820: 45.5 GPH per Watt
1100: 52.4 GPH per Watt
1500: 44.1 GPH per Watt
2600: 47.3 GPH per Watt
Mag24: 9.06 GPH per Watt

Cost of pump based on price in relation to the total amount of water moved (Price divided by GPH):
620: $.0628
820: $.0646
1100: $.0563
1500: $.0459
2600: $.0300
Mag24: $.0554

So the Mag 24 is close to the SEIOs as far as cost per gallon goes, but it's inefficiency to move water is directly translating into heat in my tank and a higher electric bill.

I'm thinking about getting 2 of the 1100's or 1500's to replace the Mag 24...am I crazy?

do not know how load a Seio is, but prolly a lot quieter than a Mag 24.

have you thought about using an eductor on a Velocity T3? that would be around 2500gph for ~$150 and silent.

Well, I'm hoping someone with a Seio will chime in with the noise level. I can't imagine it being much louder than a Maxi-jet powerhead.

I've thought about putting an eductor on the CLS just to get more flow, but I still don't want to live with the power consumption, heat and noise.

I like my seio. I only have one 620 but it moves a lot of water and it seems to be quiet compared to the two maxijet 1200's. I plan on buying 2 1100 here soon since I got a bigger tank now.

I put a Seio 2600 in my 180 a while back, so far I have had no rattles or anything odd sounding happen. It moves some serious water and is fairly quiet, I can't hear it over the rest of the tank unless I get my ear down next to where it is mounted.

i run a dart on my csl, it makes no noise what so ever. but then again, even if it did it wouldnt matter much because the panworl 200 ps running my skimmer makes enough noise itself

I have the 620 Seio and have no issues w/ noise, it does rattle a little when you restart it, but that's it. For the price, I'm happy w/ my Seio.......Although the Maxi Flow mod looks like a good, cheap alternative.....
