sump suggestions after getting rid of bioballs

Hi,

I am currently setting up a 210 reef with an ecosystem sump. Given the negatives of bioballs I'm opting to get rid of them. My question is what to put in the baffle between the refugium section of the sump and the return pump that will hold the macro from flowing over the baffle and into the return pump.

In the attached article, Bob Fenner shows "filter media" in the diagram...not sure what he means by that or if that would be a good way to go.

Some people put live rock in there, some use the space for their Carbon or Phosphate sponge. I like to leave that space pretty open for the gas exchange, this way pretty much every drop flowing thru the sump 'free falls' and hits the air...

+1 or lenth the pipe to make it quieter.

Rotties is correct, the freefall is a little noisy. This setup is on my frag tank in the basement, so a little noise goes unnoticed.
