sump help


hi im wanting to install a sump on my 29 but because of the location of the tank the sump will have to be to the left and above the 29.so my question is can i pump water into the sump and have it return to the main tank through 2 drilled overflow hoses.can anyone help me with equpment what kind of pump to use and anything else i may need.the 29 is not drilled.im posting because ive never seen a sump located above a tank befour.thanks

Hmmm, thats a new one to me! I dont see whay you couldnt do it. It would be like a normal sump set up just in reverse. The only issue I see is that the pump would be in tank or the tank would have to be drilled with an external pump. The sump would be gravity return if it was drilled or if you used a hang on overflow box.
Other than that same type of equipment i think. Just reversed. Unique idea, I like it! Keep us posted.

yea, what Robert said. do you have a ballpark of how much flow you are looking to put through the sump? why do you want to add a sump, there may be alternatives that we can think of?

sump


im thinkin like 300gph i was thinking of using a mj1200 to pump the water into the sump its only going to be about a foot away then 2 hoses back to the tank through drilled holes.so thats my idea

i want to add a sump because ive started adding corals and i think it would benafit me to hve an extra 15 to 20 gallons of water for the overall stability of my tank.i also want to hide my skimmer heater and put my uv steralizer to use.oh and maybe replace a couple of my powerheads that are crowding up my tank with the outlet hoses frome the sump.
