Skimmer Modification possible?

I have a Nautilus TE Skimmer and I was wondering if there is any way to modify it so that I don't have to use the slider tube in order to control water output. I have modified an Octopus NW-150 in a similar manner with great results. I added a gate valve, so pvc elbows, and a pvc extension tube and it worked great. Any ideas if I could do the same to this skimmer?

The only reason you wouldn't be able to gate valve mod it is if you can't get plumbing parts to fit it. If its metric. If its a standard sized drain pipe, you can gate valve it.
