Salinity Levels

What is the Salinity Level most commomn used for salinity meters in your opinion? Is the % percentage, determined by parts per thousand or parts per million. If it is parts per thousand , what will fresh water fish such as Black Bass and other finfish such as perch and also threadfin shad be able to survive in? I have been told a number between one and two parts per million is all a fresh water fish can tolerate. Is this correct? Is sea water at around 23 to 30 parts per million?

Welcome to TRT!!

sorry for being so late with a reply. i like to keep my systems at NSW levels which is around 1.026 using a refractometer and not a hydrometer. hydrometers quickly go out of calibration.

In my Fish only w/ Live rock I ran 1.019
In my Fish w/ Live rock & Snails I ran 1.021

Using a refractometer of course. I may raise it to 1.023

That's OK for FO...if the snails do OK with that I wouldn't worry...if you decided to add corals or other inverts you'll need/want to bring it up to 1.025-1.026.
