Refractometer (the best thing i have ever bought for my tank!
Well i have put it off and put it off, but i got to wondering if my tank was really where it needed to be. I took a water sample to one of my lfs to see if my hydrometer was close, it was reading .25 ha ha not even close. There refractometer said my water was at .20 holy sh**, it is a wonder i have not been having big trouble. Luck i guess! Needless to say i bought a refractometer on the spot. So i know must of the reefers on this site probably use one already but i say to anybody who does not have one, get one and get one now. It will be one of the best things you can buy to help you maintain a healthy tank. Just thought i would share this with everybody.

Congrats you bought one of the best pieces you can get for your tank,I love mine, they are much more accurate than a hydrometer.

How did you calibrate yours? I got the cal. fluid from the Dr's and with it am i supposed to set it at zero? Or did you use distilled water?
Also I got two and they both have a strange defect in the lens (blue lens) is that normal?

the manual that came with mine said to use distilled water. Has the turning screw type that you use to bring it down to 0. Double checked mine against a friends for good measure.
What kinda defect are you talking about?
