You need to check your phosphates firstly and your nitrates as well. It's probably Cyanobacteria, a very common red bacteria that will blanket substrates, rocks and even your corals. It's fed by phosphates, which usually come from overfeeding, low water flow, and inefficient skimming.
Do some searches on cyano and see if it's what you have. If you don't have corals, chemi clean is a common easy fix....but you need to export the nutrients more efficiently or it will come back....
