you can do that but i dont recommend it, the heat transfer will be pretty good, and if you have to clean it.....
you can do an "up and over" spray bar. having the mag 12 sit out side the tank, having a line in the tank to feed it and the return as you spray bar, you will have to have a way to prime it.
you can also drill the tank if you have it empty or can take it down a few inches.

keep in mind the head loss, as long as the mag is very close to the tank, even on a shelve behind it, you will have a good amount of flow, make sure you put shut offs on each side in case you need to work on it

I would also recomend against setting the bar flat on the bottom of the tank. My first spray bar sat along the back edge. I had holes drilled to put some flow behind it but it still collected junk and was not accessable for cleaning. You can use "T"s to raise it like stilts. Just put a couple in the bar and it will keep the whole area clear!

thanks for the input i have it built but when i was connecting the input side of the pump i cracked the housing so i am waiting on a new one from danner mfg. i also went with pvc in the tank and used 1.5" i.d. tubing for everything else to reduce the # of elbows

Is there any way to Tilt your Pump...? so as to allow any air in the pump to pass-on thru...? cw.

if you can insert a t at the highest point in the plumbing, you can run a vertical section of pipe, and put on a non-glued cap. then you can pop the cap to fill the system with water, which will force any air bubbles out. this is what is called "priming" the pump which will help a lot on pump life, and save you time every time you tyake apart the pump for maintenance.
if you need a pic i can probably round one up.

yeah i have one right at the intake kindof like a return on a rena filstar canister filter only with 1.5" pvc. there are no water leaks and i cannot find any spot where air might be getting in. and there are no air bubbles coming out of the cls in the main tank. maybe it is just the pump but none oh my other mags sound like that

it has been like a week with the cls running and all of the ditritus gets pushed right to the front glass i am so happy that it works. but the mag12 still sounds like s--- i think it is definitely the pump and not an air leak. any advice on a pump that is comparable to the 12 and is quiet the noise is driving me crazy

is it a vibration sound? you can try using neoprene mousepads to dampen the vibration. i also have a Mag 12 and it was quite noisy. it does however get very quiet if you add back pressure to the pump. i added a couple of eductors to the pump to increase the back pressure and it became almost silent.
i do not know how your setup is, but maybe there is a way to add back pressure to the pump without hindering what you want it to do.

it sets on a thick neo pad that came with the pump the only way i can see to add back pressure is to maybe put an clamp on the return hose and reduce the dia of the hose that way i just dont want to reduce the flow in the tank i think it is just about perfect right now. oh and by the way i did end up running just two returns in the tank and they run down each side of the overflow box and have 90 deg elbows that point towards the front of the tank.
