Poly Filters in Wet/Dry System

Does anyone use polyfilter pads instead of the standard blue/white filter pads in their wet/dry? If so do you really find that it makes a difference? Thanks in advance for your advice

most of us do not run any kind of media in the wet/dry section of our filters. most of us have actually removed all of the bio-balls. the only exception would be if you are running a huge bioload FOWLR system.

the floss material is a huge phosphate converter. it will allow the detritus to rot and release the phosphates back into the system for algae to use.

the only time i will ever use a filter sock again is only during heavy feeding for 30 min or so, and then when i siphon the bottom of the tank into a sock to catch the big stuff.

sorry, what Twitter said. these are usually high bioload systems where corals are not kept due to high nitrate levels. these tanks the ammonia levels are more important to get low than keeping the nitrates low.
