I have a set of the Aquamedic reactors. The design is interesting but as you hit on, hard to clean. I use 2l soda bottles for my cultures and throw them out after use. You could use an aqualifter and digital timer to dose measured quanitites throughout the day from an aerated holding container.
If you decide that you want to dose live phyto, I would setup a seaparate culturing area and dose the tank manually.
