Newbie needs expert help!
To everyone that is involved, thank you for your patience with me in trying to learn how to use a forum lol .
I have recently bought a reef tank and you can see all the specs in the tank specs area of the forum and also you can look on the gallery area to see pics of the tank. Here is my issue, I am trying to get this tank cycled as I have heard from many people needs to happen. I bought everything from my local fish store and I put everything in and tested it to make sure salt levels and whatnot were correct. They told me it was okay to get a fish and put it in, which is what I have done. I have a bare tank with a pretty sand and gravel bottom and a lovely blue light tone to it. I need to figure out when and hot to install the live rock and also when and how to cycle it. I woudl appreciate any help you guys can give me!

The fish go in after the live rock and the cycle. My advice is to return the fish you bought, pick up some live rock,.. let it cycle monitoring Ammonia and Nitrite levels,.. then when they drop to 0 you can put fish in.

Thank you kindly......i hate to ask, but what do I monitor these levels with? Also, I will be putting cured live rock in? I have a hydrometer for salt checking and so fourth but what will i need for the nitrates? If my tank is full now and I am going to be putting these rock in, is it okay to just dump water out of the fish tank so it will allow me to have room for the rock and whatnot?

Correct me if I am wrong, but basically I let this tank run for a whole month but with nothing in it besides the live rock?????? Wont algae and whatnot start growing out of control?

Here's a great article on live rock and the cycling process:

By the way, Pacific East Aquaculture is a great place to do business with!
