Are you talking about T5? If it was credible, I'd do a retrofit setup in a tank that size before any fixtures. Can you describe what's over your tank (is it a canopy, maybe an in-wall build, etc.)?

If you're interested in going the MH route, check ebay. DirtCheapLights sells 250W MH retrofits for $100. Buy yourself a nice reflector and youre looking at ~$700 for 3 MH's instead of a grand. I bought one and Ive been very pleased.

Icecap makes a good 250w pendent if you run a 14k or high temp bulb you shouldnt need the Actinics

I have the IC pendant in the 250w (expandable to 400w)... I also have 2 Lumenmax 3's in 150w on each side of it. Trust me when I say they reflector make s the difference. The 150's are brighter (to the eye) than the 250 IC pendant. There is a big difference in reflector efficiency and light output due to it. Not to mention that the better reflectors are just a few bucks more in initial cost than the IC or several others. I listed the 3 best reflectors available in this thread, and they are simply worth the cost IME.
