I just finally put my 4 foot long Emperor aquatics UV back on my tank
It clarifys your water and breakes phosphate bonds making the phosphate available to be taken up by bacteria and removed from your tank VIA skimming.
I beleive the benifits far outweigh the drawbacks,..

a UV sterilizer properly setup would kill pods. the chances of a pod getting into the UV sterilizer is very small. i really do not think that this should be a concern when thinking about getting a UV sterilizer. the biggest drawback for getting a UV sterilizer is the price. to get one sized properly will easily cost you over $300.

UV steralizers seem to be a hot topic of discussion these days.

Not too familiar with this company but this page has some in depth info on uv and it's uses. Of course, they are selling uv units but I think the info is pretty accurate and explained clearly. I run uv on the feed line into my recirc skimmer. I think it's one of the best places to put a uv unit, that is if you have a recirc skimmer of course.
