Ecotech Marine Vortech Pump REVIEW
I bought the Vortech propellor pump several months ago to provide flow for my 125 Gallon aggressive predator tank.
Originally when I set it up I had mounted it to low in the tank, and so had not been able to play with the adjustable speed control too much, because I would kick up the sand.
I later adjusted the mounting height and kicked the speed up by quite a bit. However, at this point I encountered a problem: the plastic washer split in half, causing the propellor to wobble and crack the base, making the unit inoperable.
I emailed Ecotech and described the problem, replacement parts where in the mail the very next day (would have been same day but I had not provided my address inthe first email and didn't get their reply until 7:00pm MT at night). They did not charge for shipping.
The new replacement parts arrived, and they are much sturdier than the first set.
I was able to reassemble the pump and get it up and running again in under 3 minutes, this pump is very easy to use.
I plan on buying a second one when money permits and removing my sand bed completely so I can mount it at the bottom opposite my current pump.
So, to sum up:
The Pro's:
1. Easy to set up: Just adjust to match the glass thickness, and position where you want on your tank. NOTE: when you put the propellor piece in the tank, shake it to remove air bubbles.
2. Adjustability: pump can move anywhere from 25 to 3000 gallons per hour.
3. Customer Service: same day better than expected customer service.
The Con's:
1. Cost: Is a pbt expensive, but, like everything else in saltwater: You get what you pay for, I consider this one of my best investments.
Hope this helps!
