45gal setup questions
I would like to set up a 45 gal Tall saltwater reef with a few fish and inverts. I am really confused about the stuff that I would need to get this set up. I have been told different things, and would really like to buy some of my equipment online to save a little money.
This is what I have heard:
Filter- Canister or Biowheel Can I use an Aquaclear instead of the biowheel? How big of a filter would I need for a 45 gal? I was told bigger than normal since it’s saltwater, then I have heard your live rocks and skimmer would be sufficient no other filter needed? I have also heard that you can turn your hang-on filter into a fuge after the LR starts natural filtrations?
Skimmer? How big? Any opinions as to the one that works the best? Then I have also heard of people not using a skimmer at all.
Lights- I am completely lost. I would like to do something comparable to the biocube with the lunar and stuff. But that’s as far as I know. I don’t want to spend $800 J Can I get lighting just like Biocube with out spending that much?
What about the lid do I need a glass lid to keep the tank from evaporating?
Heater? One for that sized tank- I assume. Stick it in the tank? Can I buy a hang on fuge and put it in there kind of like the biocube? With out doing the whole drill out sump?
What kind of pump is used for a sump? If I did get it drilled?
Would like to use live sand… how much should I use since my tank is narrow and tall?
How much LR to start out? Should I get that the same day as I get the sand?
I assuming I’ll need a water test kit…anything else?
Sorry so many questions. I have tried to research this- I’m over whelmed with information. I do understand there are several ways this could me done. I’m looking for the most efficient way. I thought you guys would know. J Thanks for any information. I just want a healthy and pretty tank!!
