powerhead with venuri?

im setting up a 55g FO (no live rock or live sand) and the tank will be covered with a standard flourescent hood.
i bought a maxi-jet 900, it has a venturi option which will burst air bubbles but im not sure if i should use this option?
would it add more oxygen to the water? or will it make way too many bubbles in the tank ruining the appearance?

anyone here use the venturi option?

heres the description...
The Maxi-Jet®PH incorporates a venturi aeration device to provide optimal aeration and gas exchange in the aquarium. A silencer keeps the venturi aeration device operating quietly. An adjustable air filter permits the user to fine-tune air volume and water mixing as desired.

it sounds ok to use...i think? i dont know why one giant skimmer keeps coming to mind lol

im trying to find pics of it too on the web in use in saltwater tanks, but i cant find any...makes me wonder if its not a good option

im sure that they came up with that because so many people are using them on their cpr skimmers insted of the rio, but I just have yet to get one for the 900. I have seen them for the 1200, but I am just trying to use what I got.

do not use the aeration option. you will just be turning your tan into a big skimmer. the aeration option is for FW tanks. the bubbles that would be formed in SW would gather at the top creating a nasty film on the waters surface. this can lead to a gas exchange problem in the tank. actually cutting down the oxygen in the tank.

the other problem with the venturi is it will create a ton of salt creep. the combo of the surface area, light, and water movement will create enough air exchange.
