new yellow head moray eel

Well i just got a yellow head moray eel. He's a little over a foot long and a little over an inch round. He is in his own tank (35 gallon long) decent lighting with moon light, filter, and protein skimmer. Couple of rocks to hide in and glass tops so hopefully he won't get out. Should i be worried about anything else? I hear feeder fish arn't really good to be feeding him. Frozen foods are better. And is there any way to tell if it's male or female. Any info would be great. Thanks

damsels would be a good food. pretty much anything you put in the tank that is SW based would be a good food choice for it.

sometimes you can get SW ghost shrimp also.

You could always breed FW Mollies as food? Just a thought

Its a nice eel, but this eel demands a larger tank then that of a 35 gal tank This is if feed healthy foods is to be one of the most active eels that not will grow to large other then its normal max growth. This eel demands a tank as large as a 75 and 90 would be better with much LR and water currents. Also because in how often you must feed this eel and how much waste it will produce, you would need to do large weekly water changes. If you not figured this out already, you will not be able to manage to keep other fish with this eel, other then damsels that would help you to eat any smaller uneaten foods and would also become food as well themselves. This eel will grow fast to your amaze and not try to offer it less foods for then you will have an unhealthy species instead and will not be as active as it should be. FW Mollies as food?!! Bad choice for the foods you offer this eel must be from the ocean waters and when you buy at the store, stay away from farm raised products and try to only buy from a fresh sea food market and buy as well for it octopus and squid as well as fish. So know this, before long this 35 gal tank will be already too small a tank for this eel, I hope the LFS your bought the eel from has told you of this!

Buddy

MERRY CHRISTMAS

fluval 205 canister filter 60gph~red sea prism skimmer 100gph~aquaclear 30and 20 powerheads ~ and a normal duel output box filter
