Looks like I have an aggressive tank!

Well the tank is a 75g. I always wanted a porcupine puffer and since I found a smallish one that looks really healthy I picked him up.

This guy is about 3in long I would guess. He was eating in the store and I think he's eating here... he goes crazy for food I think he's eating some but a lot of it he just rips up and spits out?

Is this at all normal? I'm not worried since he does go after it. I've given him mysis and krill so far.

As for tank mates I'm considering a few things.
1- pink tail trigger
2- harlequin tusk
3- some sorta hawk... would a longnose be okay in there?
4- maybe a tang?

any thoughts on this?

thanks!

i would only look at the bristletooth tangs for that sized tank.

pretty much all of the triggers are going to be to big for that tank. that puffer of yours can get to over 2' in length, so be prepared to upgrade down the line.

the tusk is also a large fish.

hawkfish would be fine. just make sure you get one that is eating.

some fish like to only eat live food. most of the time they spit stuff out because it is not live. try some live ghost shrimp and see if it like that.

have you thought about a zebra moray?

Hey Geoff

I'll explain the situation. I'm finishing university in a year.
Then I don't know where I'll be living. So in a years time I'll either be moving the fish into a larger tank or if I'm moving far away I'll have to give them away.

So really the fish will be in this tank for a year. I know this situation isn't ideal but that's how it is.

I will try some shrimp if it looks like he's not eating.

I will consider an eel. I dont have much sandin the tank though. I might have to reorganize the rock as well for one.

Thanks Geoff

Well the puffer is definately eating krill now!
he's out and about right now. I think I'm going to buy a kole tang to go in the tank with him. Hopefully he won't try to eat him!

you do not need sand to keep an eel. my wife kept a 4' zebra moray in a BB tank just fine.
